Embodying the Chakras - part 2 - Are you nourishing your creative flow?

Oct 04, 2025

Another term for energy (from the yogic world) is Prana which itself is often termed life-force or simply breath. In its most simple form, we’re pointing to the ultimate energy that drives everything that is alive. Or, it’s what’s missing, when something dies.

In 2010, after a couple of decades as a fitness trainer, I added a twist to my skills and embarked on a yoga teacher training. This brought a new and positive dimension to my classes, private sessions and personal life.

I would like to share some of this here as we continue our exploration of how…

“body awareness is the bridge between subtle and physical energy

This week, we land at the second chakra… the sacral chakra.… the home of:

  • Imagination
  • Creativity
  • Feelings
  • Affection
  • Desire

I summarises it as ‘passion for life’!

Last week with the root, we had the element of ground. Now, we get to the element of water, which brings us to a focus of restoring natural flow, about being open to change (riding the ups and downs) but also about developing your creative side.

Physically, the second chakra lands at the sacrum at the base of the spine, through to an area a few inches below the navel at the front.

For a mini mindfulness practice right now…

you could place one hand on your sacrum, and the other to the front (just above your pubic bone). Elevate your posture slightly, relax your brow, close your eyes and notice this region. Take five to ten breaths here, feel your sense of flow and then come back to reading.

Being around the centre of the body, it’s a point of focus in meditation (the hara), part of the powerhouse from Pilates, the core drive for martial artists and, it acts as a good area to sense and image during any balance exercises.

This week, your mission is to get to know this region better!

But what happens if we’re out of balance at the sacral chakra?

The following traits are often experienced when your sacrum/second chakra is out of balance:

  • You are more likely to get stuck with negative feelings
  • You might find yourself repeating the same mistakes
  • You find it hard to break addictions
  • In terms of desire, you might never feel quite satisfied
  • You’re at a block with creativity
  • And, here’s the kicker… you resist change

However, when you are open to new things and not adhered to set outcomes then you remain in the natural state of flow. This means you can quickly accept and adapt to unexpected situations and welcome a continuous renewal (a refreshing) of thoughts/feelings/beliefs.

So, for this week, can you also be open to newness and focus on restoring flow?

Maybe you could allow yourself a day or two with a totally clear schedule? No chores, shopping or work, simply a day to rest and reflect. This sense of space can help remind you about your passions and help you refine and develop creativity. In other words, you enter the day with nothing to do and will be fully open to what arises.

And we start this cluster of Dojiva classes with a mindfulness practice that’s all about listening into your passion; that which grabs your interest, what inspires you. It maybe a:

  • A hobby
  • A new carrier path
  • A service to others
  • Playing a musical instrument
  • Learning a new language
  • Writing
  • DIY/gardening
  • A sport or
  • Even a skill you had as a child

It’s about discovering and honing what you want to be doing with your day to day life.

Careful not to be self-stifled

Are you self supportive with your endeavours, your work, sports performance, hobbies, etc? I ask that because there can be an inner critique. Whether from self or others, you could be thrown off your sacral balance when your performance or creativity is rejected or criticised.

The remedy…

Whatever the world throws at you, keep on track, be your authentic self and keep going. As the great saying goes:

‘Always be yourself because there are many people looking for exactly that’

In summary, as you become more balanced at the second chakra, I would like to see you continue to reach new levels of abundance through your passion for life, your ideas, your creativity and of course your Prana. Let’s get that life-force flowing. And be sure to join in with as many classes as possible.

And how about some suggestions for a daily mantra:

“I allow space in my day to reveal clarity and purpose”

”I have revealed my passion and ready to ignite it”

“I am full of inspiration and my creativity is in full flow”

“I am creative, unique and I love what I do”

Or, what words fit for you.

Thanks for reading.

Take care
